Privacy policy

BT takes privacy very seriously.

When you make a donation or register to fundraise through MyDonate, we ask for your name, address, contact number and email address. If you get in touch with us, we use your personal information to check your identity.

If you make a donation, we also ask for your debit or credit card details so we can administer donations. We have to pass these details to your bank, purely to process the donation transaction. When claiming Gift Aid, we have to pass your name and address to HM Revenue and Customs, who authorise these claims, on a monthly basis.

If you are registering a charity to receive donations through MyDonate, we ask for details of the person who is making the application. The details we require are their name, address, email address and phone number. If this person is not a treasurer or finance director of the charity then we also require the same details for either the treasurer or finance director of the charity. If either of these people gets in touch with us, we use their personal information to check their identity. We may also provide the details of these people to third parties for identity verification purposes

As a fundraiser or donor, your information will be passed to your nominated charity to manage your fundraising or donation, as applicable. We won’t pass your information to your nominated charity for marketing purposes, unless you consent for us to do so. You can also choose to withdraw this consent at any time by logging into your MyDonate account. When your personal information is passed on to your chosen charity, the data will be dealt with in accordance with your chosen charity’s own privacy policy.

We'll sometimes use your contact details to send you service updates; for example if there is a problem with a donation payment.

BT sometimes receives information requests from law enforcement agencies about its customers for the purposes of preventing and detecting crime, prosecuting offenders, and protecting national security. BT complies with those requests that are lawful.

We also provide information when the law says we have to, such as in response to a court order.
