What is an apprenticeship?
Apprentices earn a salary and work alongside and learn on the job from experienced colleagues to gain job-specific skills. In addition, apprentices may attend college or complete work based courses to work towards a nationally recognised professional qualification in their chosen career path.

Anyone over 16, living in the UK and not in full-time education can apply for an apprenticeship.
Who funds the apprenticeship?
Apprentices do not pay anything towards their apprenticeship. BT will pay for the apprentice’s training as well as paying them a salary.
How long does it take?
The length of the apprenticeships BT offers depends on the programme and the level of qualification the apprentice is working towards. Typically our apprenticeships are between two and four years duration.
How is learning achieved through the apprenticeship?
Our apprenticeships are designed so they offer a structured programme that takes the apprentices through the skills they need to do a job well. Along the way there are targets and checks to make sure each apprentice is supported and is making progress.
As most of the time is spent in the workplace, the majority of training takes place on the job with the remainder taking place at a local college or a specialist training organisation. Apprentices may complete the off-the-job training on day release or over a number of days in a block. For those that attend college as part of their apprenticeship, the amount of time they spend at college varies according to the apprenticeship. It could be anything from one day a fortnight to two days every week.
The outcome of this blended learning method will be a vocational qualification for our apprentices which will be useful in their job and help them succeed in their future career.
